Rune 2: Dungeons

As a fan of the original Rune it was a pleasure to work with Studio 369 on the sequel. While the game had a large open world, my focus was mostly on a handful of dungeons for Rune 2.
My responsibilities included designing, prop dressing and lighting these levels. My workflow included using a UE4 tool called Dungeon Architect to quickly iterate and create a digital paper map. Once I landed on something interesting, I'd share it with the team to fine tune the design and make sure it worked well for gameplay and flow.
All art assets were provided, allowing me to focus on world building/prop dressing and lighting. Some models, textures and materials required a bit of rework to meet our tech specs.
While lighting, I needed to make sure players could see well all while creating a moody ambience. Torches would generally light the way but finding creative ways of introducing external light sources in a dungeon was a fun exercise in creativity, giving the illusion that there is a much bigger space outside of the main gameplay path the player experiences.
